IRCAI celebrated the first anniversary of the UNESCO Chair on Ethics of Artificial Intelligence and Education.
The Chair is jointly led by Wayne Holmes from IRCAI and Kyungmee Lee from Seoul National University. During the event, they presented the key achievements of the Chair’s first year of activities, as well as future directions for its development and international collaboration.
Participants were welcomed by Young-hoan Cho and John Shawe-Taylor, who highlighted the importance of international cooperation in advancing ethical, inclusive, and human-centred artificial intelligence in education.
The programme featured presentations of ongoing research activities and contributions from doctoral students from Europe and South Korea, reflecting the Chair’s commitment to interdisciplinary research, global dialogue, and capacity building in the field of AI and education.
Special attention was dedicated to the upcoming publication, the Handbook of Critical Studies of Artificial Intelligence and Education, with contributing authors Velislava Hillman, Wm Matthew Kennedy, Zixuan Guo, Shai Tubali, and Ron Salaj presenting key highlights of their chapters and research perspectives.
As part of the wider IRCAI programme, Tanja Zdolšek Draksler presented the AI Academy, one of IRCAI’s key pillars dedicated to strengthening knowledge, skills, and capacity building in the field of artificial intelligence.
The anniversary event highlighted the growing importance of international collaboration in shaping ethical and responsible AI in education and reaffirmed IRCAI’s commitment to supporting inclusive, human-centred, and sustainable approaches to artificial intelligence worldwide.
