IRCAI is proud to support the AI Against Modern Slavery (AIMS Hackathon 2025), a global online innovation challenge that invites developers, researchers, entrepreneurs, human rights advocates, and sustainability experts to develop AI-enabled solutions that combat modern slavery. Taking place from September 10 to 17, 2025, this international hackathon promotes transparency, accountability, and ethical innovation through open-source AI tools.
About AIMS Hackathon
Led by the FundaciĂłn Pasos Libres, Queensland University of Technology (QUT), and Mila – Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute of AI, the hackathon aims to:
- Raise public awareness of modern slavery
- Increase the technical and domain expertise of participants
- Enhance interdisciplinary collaboration and
- Promote open-source solutions for social good.
As a knowledge partner, IRCAI supports this important initiative to strengthen the intersection of AI and sustainable development, which would accelerate efforts in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The AIMS Hackathon builds on Project AIMS, a pioneering initiative using large language models (LLMs) to benchmark and analyze modern slavery statements issued by corporate companies. The project promotes corporate responsibility and ethical business practices, while making results openly available.
Who Can Participate?
The competition is open to researchers, students, entrepreneurs or professionals over 18 years old, who are:
- Skilled in AI, machine learning, software development, or related fields
- Passionate about applying technology for human rights, transparency, accountability, and social justice
- Creative problem-solvers ready to collaborate internationally.

1st Place: $3,000
2nd Place: $1,000
