Highlights from the 16th ASEF Classroom Network Conference

Educators and professionals from across Europe and Asia gathered in the picturesque city of Ljubljana, Slovenia, from November 12-15, 2023, for the 16th ASEF Classroom Network Conference. Hosted by the International Research Centre on AI under the Auspices of UNESCO (IRCAI) and supported by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, this annual event was a success: it brought teachers together, facilitated the creation of new partnerships, answered some questions about AI in education and uncovered many new and important ones.

Theme: Leading Change in the Era of AI

This year’s conference centered around the theme “Leading Change: Digital Transformation of Education in the Era of AI.” With the goal of empowering educators with essential insights, competencies, and strategies in Artificial Intelligence & Education (AI&Ed), the conference aimed to explore the intersection between the human and technological aspects of AI in education.

Key Topics and Discussions

1. Embracing Human-Tech Collaboration: Participants engaged in discussions on the harmonious integration of human and technological elements in education, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a balance.

2. AI Tools in Teaching: The conference delved into practical aspects, addressing pedagogical concerns, privacy, security, and ethical considerations when incorporating AI tools into teaching methodologies.

3. Understanding AI Mechanics: Attendees gained a deeper understanding of the mechanics of AI, exploring its creation and delving into the societal, ethical, and human implications it carries.

Global Collaboration and Exchange

The ASEF Classroom Network conferences have been instrumental in fostering global collaboration and exchange of knowledge. This year’s event brought together school principals, teachers, IT experts, and education professionals from 51 countries, providing a unique platform for the exchange of cutting-edge developments and the establishment of new research and business connections.

The charming city of Ljubljana set the stage for this year’s conference, offering a vibrant backdrop for the exchange of knowledge and ideas. Participants were treated to a warm welcome at the Town Hall of Ljubljana on November 12th at 7:00 PM, marking the beginning of several days of enriching discussions.
