The October issue of the scientific and professional journal Laboratorijska medicina features an article by Dr. Tanja Zdolšek Draksler entitled “Why Does Laboratory Medicine Matter to Someone Outside the Field?”
The article highlights the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, trust, and the integration of expertise in the modern care of people living with rare diseases. It introduces ERDERA – the European Rare Diseases Research Alliance – and its role in strengthening research, knowledge and data sharing, training, and patient involvement across Europe.
The article also presents the ERDERA National Mirror Group for Rare Diseases in Slovenia, coordinated by the Jožef Stefan Institute (Tanja Zdolšek Draksler). The group’s role is to connect Slovenia’s national priorities, needs, and expertise with broader European collaboration in the field of rare diseases.
Through its activities, the National Mirror Group supports more coordinated collaboration among researchers, healthcare professionals, patient organisations, policymakers, and other stakeholders, contributing to improved conditions for diagnosis, treatment, and quality of life for people living with rare diseases in Slovenia.
