Frankfurt, Germany – 7 October 2026

On 7 October 2026, the International Research Centre on Artificial Intelligence (IRCAI) organised a panel discussion entitled “Truth or Fiction? Navigating Deep Reading and Education in the Age of Misinformation” as part of the Dialogue Stage programme at the Frankfurter Buchmesse 2026, one of the world’s leading international events for the publishing industry.

The event brought together international experts from publishing, technology, research, education and culture to examine the transformative impact of generative artificial intelligence (AI) on creativity, knowledge production and cultural expression. The discussion explored both the opportunities and challenges presented by AI, with particular attention to responsible innovation, the future of publishing and education, and the growing importance of trust in an age of misinformation.

Exploring the Future of AI, Culture and Education

As generative AI continues to reshape the ways in which content is created, distributed and consumed, the cultural and creative sectors face fundamental questions about the relationship between human creativity and technological innovation.

The panel provided a platform for interdisciplinary dialogue, focusing on three central questions:

  1. What is the single biggest change AI is bringing to publishing, technology, research and cultural institutions?
  2. How can humans and AI work together responsibly to create a sustainable future in publishing, education and culture?
  3. What needs to happen that is not already happening to help us navigate reading, publishing and education in an age of misinformation?

These questions framed a broader discussion on the evolving role of authors, publishers, researchers and educational institutions in an increasingly AI-driven environment. Particular attention was given to the importance of critical thinking, deep reading, digital literacy and the responsible integration of AI technologies into cultural and educational practices.

International Experts Contribute to the Dialogue

The panel brought together distinguished representatives from different countries and professional backgrounds:

  • Ricardo Almeida, Almeida Editores, Portugal
  • Mitja Jermol, IRCAI, Slovenia
  • Dr. Miha Kovač, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia
  • Dr. Panagiotis Kapos, HFBC, Greece
  • Senja Požar, IRCAI, Slovenia – Curator
  • Nadim Sadek, Shimmr AI, United Kingdom

The discussion was moderated by Emma House, Oreham Group, United Kingdom.

The event took place on the Dialogue Stage, Hall 4.0, Foyer, at the Frankfurt Book Fair, from 16:30 to 17:30.

Advancing Responsible and Human-Centred AI

Through the organisation of this international discussion, IRCAI contributed to the ongoing dialogue on the responsible and human-centred development of artificial intelligence, particularly in the fields of culture, creativity and education.

The event highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary cooperation in addressing the societal implications of generative AI and encouraged reflection on how technological innovation can support, rather than undermine, human creativity, cultural diversity and access to reliable information.

By connecting experts from publishing, academia and the technology sector, the discussion supported IRCAI’s broader mission of promoting ethical, inclusive and responsible AI for the benefit of society.

The panel also emphasised the importance of strengthening digital literacy and critical engagement with information as AI-generated content becomes increasingly integrated into everyday life.
