IRCAI coordinates one of the nine thematic White Papers within the ASEF Higher Education Innovation Laboratory 7 (ASEFInnoLab7), contributing to international dialogue on ethical, human-centred, and socially beneficial artificial intelligence for good.
From 21–25 April 2026, IRCAI participated in the ASEFInnoLab7 programme, including the Coordinators’ Meeting and the international Shanghai Forum held at Fudan University in Shanghai, China.
The event brought together experts, researchers, and higher education leaders from Asia and Europe to explore the role of universities in advancing AI for Good, with a strong focus on ethics, education, innovation, and international cooperation.
We are especially proud that John Shawe-Taylor, Director of IRCAI, contributed to the Shanghai Forum discussions on the future of artificial intelligence, responsible AI governance, and the role of research institutions in building an inclusive and sustainable digital society.
IRCAI representatives João Pita Costa, Anja Polajnar, and Davor Orlič are coordinating one of the nine thematic white paper tracks within ASEFInnoLab7, contributing expertise in ethical and responsible AI, education, and international collaboration.
During the virtual onboarding session held on 15 May 2026, the IRCAI team also had the pleasure of meeting the members of the white paper team — Chetanpal Singh, Ajita Deshmukh, Ebba Ossiannilsson, Weiyao Meng, and Joost Groot Kormelink. We look forward to collaborating with such a diverse and inspiring international group of experts and to jointly contributing to the development of meaningful and impactful outcomes.
The ASEFInnoLab7 programme provides an excellent opportunity to strengthen connections between European and Asian partners and to further advance global dialogue on ethical, inclusive, and sustainable artificial intelligence.
